A cognitive assessment is requested as part of an application for a Language Development School. Our Psychologists are experienced with providing evidence for these applications and can support you through this process. For eligibility to a LCD , the child must have been assessed by a Speech Pathologist as having a Primary Language Disorder. For acceptance into the program the child must have average or above average IQ. An assessment for a LCD will consist of:
Parent interview
IQ assessment.
Functional/behavioural assessment with both parent and teacher
Feedback and report
An LCD application generally requires a non verbal IQ assesment be used to assess the child. Southside Psychology uses the Leiter-3 which is the gold standard non verbal IQ assessment and preferred assessment to form part of the LCD process.
Our assessments are generally conducted in our Success clinic, however a home or school visit can be arranged if required for an additional travel fee.
